I never did mention, the Doctor Who convention - which was nearly 2 weeks ago - went great!

It was a long journey there, over 10 hours of driving in total, but even that was relatively pleasant. We left home at 3am (no point in going to sleep after midnight when we had originally been planning to leave at 6 in the morning anyway), so we managed to cross London and hit the motorway by 3:45. Yep, that's right - we travelled some 20 miles through central London and onto the M1 in just 45 minutes flat. Try doing that at any reasonable time of day and it'll take upwards of 2 hours.

The place we stayed at was pretty nice, and as it was the same place the convention was actually being held in, it was even better, very convenient. Most of the guests who'd been advertised did show up. I think there were a couple missing; I remember they said that William Russell (Ian Chesterton, 1963-65) didn't show because of family/health problems, which is a pity (I've never met the man) but entirely understandable in the circumstances.

There were 16 guests in all, though 4 were there only to sign autographs for people who paid for them (I couldn't afford to, sadly). My dad's favourite Doctor Who actress was not in attendance (he luuuuurves Liz Sladen! ), but mine was. I absolutely love Sarah Sutton, who played Nyssa of Traken (I know ~captshade at least agrees with me).

And talking of which, Sarah signed my poster of Nyssa that Palcomix drew me! (see my gallery) She seemed a bit surprised that anybody would draw fanart of her (she underestimates her popularity and the power of teh interwebs, methinks ), and joked about how much larger the cartoon-version was in certain areas, but at the end of the day, it wasn't too weird (I hope). If I can get a camera to take a decent picture of it (the poster is 30 by 20 inches), I'll post up a shot of the full autographed poster.

That was the absolute highlight of the weekend for me. We stayed and listened to the guest talks - Kai Owen (Rhys in Torchwood) is absolutely BONKERS! But totally in a good way. He kept telling his assigned interviewer to shut up and stop being boring, and took questions from the floor and generally giving silly answers and cracking jokes the whole time. We even somehow ended up having a group discussion about the possible future existence of a BBCPorn channel. (Yeah, like they'd ever be THAT cool... ).
